Local Labour Council President will represent NDP in 2018 provincial election in Sudbury

The Ontario NDP in Sudbury has chosen local Labour Council President Jamie West as the party’s candidate for the 2018 provincial election. West was up against local film-maker Beth Mairs and former newspaper reporter Carol Mulligan. West says he’s very excited, and really happy that they had such a great race with three strong candidates.

Nickel Belt MPP France Gelinas was on hand for the nomination, and believes West will be a fantastic candidate. Gelinas says they had three good people putting their names forward. She says Carol Mulligan had her support, Beth Mairs came forward with a new group of people who started to look at the NDP. Gelinas says all three did a ton of work getting new voters engaged and gaining the support of existing members.

The NDP is looking to re-gain a riding it held back in the 2014 provincial election when Joe Cimino captured the seat.
