A permanent skateboard park will be set up at Thompson Park in North Bay. The cost will be half a million dollars which a working group will raise. The city will kick-in $100,000 which goes toward a parking lot and design of the skateboard park. And while waiting for the permanent site, skateboard enthusiasts can use the parking lot as their temporary site. In the winter, the parking lot will be used for Battalion hockey games and also parents taking their kids to the sliding hill. The only councillor opposed to the site was George Maroosis. He prefers the waterfront because it has washrooms, plus food concessions and he believes it’s safer.
