Provincial government and Nipissing First Nation continuing collaboration on Walleye Fisheries Management

The provincial government and the Nipissing First Nation are marking the first anniversary of the Lake Nipissing Memorandum of Understanding established in 2016. The MOU was designed to support sustainable management of Lake Nipissing fisheries and local walleye population recovery.

In a release, both parties say the collaborative effort continues. Officials say in the past year, they have sampled 850 fish and more than 30 days of commercial fishery assessments and monitoring surveys have been conducted. That includes 48 net sets for the Fall Walleye Index Netting survey, and more than 90 commercial fishers have been contacted to raise awareness of the new fisheries management practices.
