New fire base opens to fight forest fires

The new Northern Fire Base at Jack Garland Airport is now open after the province put $9.5-million in the project.  The base replaces the old one on Trout Lake Road that was built in the 1950’s.  Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry, Kathryn McGarry says the new base will benefit the personnel who rush into forest fires while everyone else runs in the opposite direction.  McGarry says the new facility will allow firefighters to decompress and debrief comfortably after dealing with fires.
