The Northern Ontario Party is proposing to separate from Southern Ontario. It`s the first of 37 points the party makes in releasing its platform in time for the June 2018 provincial election. NOP founder and president Ed Diebel says it`s time for northerners to tell Queen`s Park it can`t ignore the north nor treat it like a colony. Diebel promoted separation 40 years ago with the formation of the Northern Ontario Heritage Party. On hydro, the party suggests a one-time rate for hydro regardless of the time of day and eliminating residential delivery charges. The NOP also says if long term care homes had a doctor or nurse practitioner on site, we`d have more hospital beds freed up.
