Fedeli easily wins riding

Nipissing Tory MPP Vic Fedeli easily won a second term in Thursday’s provincial election.  But with a majority Liberal government now in place, Fedeli is worried about the province’s finances.  Fedeli expects the Liberals’ fiscal policies will lead to a credit downgrade in Ontario and that’s bad news for North Bay.  It’s because the City’s credit rating is tied to the province and what happens at the provincial level has a local impact.     Downgrades in credit ratings usually lead to more expensive borrowing because interests rates are increased.   Fedeli is also concerned about the future of Ontera saying the Liberals can now go ahead and sell it without further impediment.  Fedeli won by picking up 13,085 votes compared to 8,381 for Liberal Catherine Whiting and 8,055 for Henri Giroux of the NDP. The other candidates saw Nicole Peltier of the Greens garner 1,198 votes, Derek Elliott of the Libertarian saw support from 365 voters while Independent candidate Patrick Clement had 210 votes.
