Premier calls by-election for Sault Ste. Marie

We’ll know on June 1st whether the Ontario Liberals will be able to keep their seat in Sault Ste. Marie.  The Premier has called an election for that date to replace former MPP and cabinet minister David Orazietti.   Orazietti suddenly quit as an MPP last December.   He was first elected in 2003 and held three cabinet posts beginning as the Minister of Natural Resources in 2013.  The veteran Liberal MPP was the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services when he quit.   His victory in 2003 marked the first time since 1943 that Sault residents votes for a Liberal.  The riding has been mostly P.C. or NDP over the years.
