The North Bay and District Labour Council says the Ontario budget is a missed opportunity. Spokesman Henri Giroux says there are some decent provisions for families. But Giroux says the Liberals failed to introduce a new higher minimum wage which would help women, immigrant workers and young people. Giroux also says the Liberals don’t address the issue of strike breakers which prolong labour disputes. Giroux says the Liberals also don’t address the issue of temporary work agencies. He says these agencies supply employers with workers who are paid less for doing the same work someone else would do. Giroux says it remains to be seen if the budget grows the economy by investing in front-line workers.
