OPP in the north are again reminding people about the problem with 911 hang-up calls. Police say when you suddenly hang-up on a 911 dispatcher, police treat that as a life-threatening situation and send a cruiser to the scene. Many times there is no emergency and police lose time when their resources could have been used elsewhere. Their advice is if you accidentally call 911, don’t hang-up but rather tell the dispatcher it was an accident so they have time to verify there is no emergency.
