Premier vows to protect Northern Ontario from American softwood tariffs

Premier Kathleen Wynne says she won’t allow the U.S. government to threaten the communities that depend on forestry for their livelihood.  Wynne was reacting to the U-S decision to slap a tariff on Canadian softwood lumber exports to the U.S.  Wynne says the new tax puts northern communities at risk.  The province has appointed an expert on softwood lumber negotiations to ensure Ontario’s interests are represented with ongoing talks.  Wynne says the U.S.is being unfair and stresses it’s her goal to protect forestry sector jobs and the towns the industry supports.
