Espanola woman recognized for raising awarness on missing and murder Aboriginal women

Northern Ontario Business has given an Espanola woman the Aboriginal Leadership award for her artwork on missing and murdered Aboriginal women across Canada and the U-S.  Christi Belcourt is Metis and an activist trying to raise awareness on missing indigenous girls and women.  She says in the past 30 years in Canada alone nearly 1,200 Aboriginal women have either been murdered or gone missing.   She adds one Aboriginal girl or woman is murdered in Canada every 12 days.  Belcourt was one of several recipients recognized by the publication in its annual Influential Women of Northern Ontario Awards event.
