Investigators don’t believe there’s anything suspicious about the Friday morning fire that destroyed the Marco Polo restaurant in Sturgeon Falls. The West Nipissing Fire Department got the call at 6:54am that the building was on fire and firefighters were on the scene within moments. Four stations with 22 firefighters responded and they had the blaze out by about 8:30am. Fire Chief Richard Maranda says although the cause isn’t known yet, the fire started in the back of the building in the kitchen area. Maranda doesn’t yet have a damage estimate. No one was in the restaurant at the time and no firefighters were hurt. The restaurant was in the process of being transferred to a new owner.
