News Forest fire season arrives in northeast SHARE ON: Rocco Frangione, staff Friday, May. 16th, 2014 The May long weekend means another start to forest fire season. And surprisingly there have been seven wildfires in the northeast to date considering it’s been a very wet spring. Five forest fires took place in the Sudbury District and burned 48 hectares of land. Two smaller fires less than a hectare in size took place in Kirkland Lake and Hearst Districts. Considering it’s going to be a wet weekend, the Ministry of Natural Resources is expecting very few new fires.
