Council rejects ranked ballot voting method

West Nipissing council is saying no to a new way of carrying out municipal elections.   The provincial government is giving municipalities the option to go the ranked ballot route as opposed to picking single candidates.  With ranked ballots, voters pick their most preferred candidate and run down the list to the least preferred candidate.  However if after the votes are cast and there are no clear cut winners, more rounds of counting are needed to determine the council make-up.  But Mayor Joanne Savage says this is very complex and not cheap to do.  For those reasons Savage says council is staying with the current system adding there’s nothing wrong with it.
