West Nipissing council making progress in the budget process

West Nipissing Council is making progress in their special budget meetings during the past week, they’ve been hard at work meeting last Saturday, Monday night, and last night in Lavigne.

Mayor Joanne Savage says they’ve already found some savings. Savage says council got the budget down from 14.5 per cent to 5.22 per cent.

Savage says council was also provided with different scenarios about whether the budget impact will be 7.1, 5.5 or 4.74 as far as an increase. She says based on the numbers presented, council will have a decision to make about the best path to take forward in the process.

Savage finished by saying 4.38 per cent of the tax increase represents uncontrollable expenses, like board levy’s and a reduction of $142,000 from provincial funding which is allocated to West Nipissing for 2017.
