High cost of ice in North Bay could see more out of town teams at Sturgeon Falls Arena

Due to the high cost of renting ice in North Bay, Sturgeon Falls and other surrounding areas might be seeing more out of town teams at their rinks.

According to a report, the City of North Bay would have to charge $570 per hour for winter ice rentals at Memorial Gardens and $189 per hour at other arenas to recover all of its costs. Following a recent review of the city’s ice rental fees full-cost recovery is not being recommended, instead staff is suggesting the city phase in a hike over the next two years.

Adult prime time ice rental fees at Memorial Gardens would reach a little more than $190 in 2018, and around $175 at Pete Palangio and West Ferris. At the Sturgeon Falls arena adult prime time ice is $125, but from 6:30am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday that cost drops to $80.
