The under-14 girls North Bay Youth Volleyball Lakers captured silver at the McGregor Cup in Sturgeon Falls this past weekend. The Lakers started the tournament ranked #3 and finished the tournament #2. Lakers finished first in pool play by defeating (#9) the U-13 Lakers 2-0 (25-18, 25-21) and (#4) Barrie Elites Black 2-1 (26-24, 14-25, 16-14).
In the quarter-finals the Lakers defeated the (#7) Barrie Elites Blue 2-0 (25-16, 25-20).  The U-14 Lakers would face the (#5) Georgina Riptide Rage in the semi-final and came away with hard fought comeback win 2-1 (25-8, 13-25, 17-15).
The gold medal match would feature a rematch of their pool play match between (#4) Barrie Elites Black. Elites Black would get the best of the (#3) Lakers this time around with a 2-0 (25-18, 25-23).
Head Coach Nic Martin says he couldn’t be more proud of what the girls achieved up until now. Martin says these girls never fail to impress him. The Lakers will now prepare for the Bugarski Cup on February 25th.
