Health unit begins baby-friendly initiative

The Sudbury and District Health Unit wants more mothers to breast feed their babies as opposed to giving them baby formula.  The health unit has adopted the Baby Friendly Initiative which sets the standard for infant feeding around the world.  The initiative encourages mothers to feed babies whenever they seem hungry and to hold and feed their little ones skin-to-skin.  The health unit says it will work with families so they make informed decisions on feeding their babies.  One thing the health unit stays away from is endorsing formula, bottles, nipples and pacifiers.  There`s more information about the program online at www.bfiOntario.ca
