New Democrat says action needed to stop First Nation suicides
A Northern Ontario New Democrat says something is seriously wrong when young people commit suicide. Mike Mantha, the MPP for Algoma Manitoulin, was reacting to deaths last week of two 12-year-old girls from the Wapekeka First Nation. Mantha, who is the NDP’s Indigenous Relations critic, says suicides have been an epidemic on some First Nations for decades. He says real action is needed before more young people take their own lives. Mantha says we need to get support and resources to First Nation young people struggling with mental health issues now and not later.
