The MP for Algoma Manitoulin Kapuskasing wants the government to create a network of community-operated TV centres. Carol Hughes was responding to petitioners who say media convergences are leaving them without a way to get out local news. The affected regions are places not served by public or private broadcasters. Hughes say the government has a responsibility to ensure residents in these affected spots have a platform to get their messages out. She says this could even lead to ordinary people getting trained to distribute news content on several platforms in a digital age.
