Chambers tell Premier to delay cap and trade

A coalition of chambers of commerce in Ontario is again calling on the Premier to delay the cap and trade tax by one year.  The president of the Timmins chamber of commerce says it’s because no one knows how the new tax will affect businesses and people.  Timmins president Chris Bender says Ontario needs to see how the Prime Minister and the new U-S president approach the issue.  Bender says it’s critical that Ontario remain competitive with American states and neighbouring provinces.  But she says hitting Ontario businesses with extra energy costs on January 1st could make them uncompetitive.  Under cap and trade, some mining companies would pay an extra $10-million in annual costs and smaller business could see natural gas spike by an additional $6,700.
