Shortly after Toronto announced tolls for the Gardiner Expressway and Don Valley Parkway, the MPP for Timmins-James Bay spoke against them. However Gilles Bisson’s opposition sparked a column from the Toronto Star which found it strange that a northern politician would react to something that has little or no impact for Northern Ontario. But Bisson says the Star is wrong because the province allowing Toronto to create road tolls sets a precedence. Bisson says once the province lets Toronto introduce tolls, it sets a precedence for any community to also create road tolls. Bisson also says if Southern Ontario politicians can weigh in on Bills that affect the north, than the north can also comment on southern issues.
