Spearfishermen causing concern for Nipissing residents and walleye

Spearfishermen at Wasi Falls are causing concern for a group of Nipissing residents. According the North Bay Nugget,  around 50 people gathered at Wasi Falls Road to confront a group who have reportedly been spearfishing Walleye. Just last week, the Lake Nipissing Stakeholders Association had been harvesting walleye eggs as part of a long term effort to restore the fish’s shrinking population. The spearfishermen are assumed to be out of towners not familiar with the ban in place from April 1st to May 15th. The group did not encounter any spearfishermen.
