NDP grandparents bill passes second reading

Legislation ensuring grandparents have access to their grandchildren is closer to becoming law.  The Private Member’s Bill from Mike Mantha of Algoma Manitoulin, has passed second reading at Queens Park.  Mantha says the Bill is not only about ensuring grandparents can see their grandchildren, he says it’s also about the rights of the kids.  He says denying a relationship between grandchildren and their grandparents is detrimental to the youngsters because they miss out on a special love.  In Ontario, more than 75,000 grandparents have been denied the ability to see their grandchildren and Mantha hopes to turn that around.  With the Bill passing second reading, it now moves to the committee stage for debate and possible refinement.
