Premier Kathleen Wynne is promising to look into why tax assessments in the north have doubled and tripled in just four years. The commitment is the result of Mike Mantha of Algoma Manitoulin bringing up the issue at Queen’s Park. Mantha says one senior got hit with sticker shock when she saw how much the assessed value of her home had jumped. Mantha says one senior told him the assessed value of her home went from $80,000 to more than $180,000. Mantha says there’s no way assessments can increase this much and he’s demanding to know how MPAC is arriving at its rates.
