Fourteen regular and volunteer firefighters in West Nipissing have been honoured for their long service records. The longest serving firefighter is Rick Burgin. The federal government gave Burgin a 50 year award and at the provincial level, Burgin is the recipient of a 45-year service award. Getting his 30-year provincial medal is Fire Chief Richard Maranda. The province also awarded six firefighters with 35-year medals. Another four were honoured at the federal level with 20 year awards while the feds recognized two additional firefighters for 25 years of service.
