Council ready to embark on another OPP costing study

West Nipissing residents should brace themselves for another OPP costing study.  Council is expected to pass a motion at its October 18th meeting to again ask the OPP what it will cost to police the municipality.  The provincial average to provide OPP service is $357 a household which is about $200 less than the municipal service.

However councillor Jamie Restoule says the provincial average doesn’t include services West Nipissing now offers and that has to be factored in.  Restoule says the last costing study three years ago was very taxing for the community and he adds there are social implications to consider.  Meanwhile Mayor Joanne Savage told council that once it embarks down this path, staff will be committed to a singular project for an entire year.
