The Liberal MP for Sudbury is dismissing claims that the federal Liberals aren’t doing anything to advance the Ring of Fire. Paul Lefebvre says the feds are talking with First Nations near the site. He adds these talks are needed since the Aboriginal communities are partners in the chromite discovery. Lefebvre says we can’t move onto the next phase until agreements with all parties are in place.
The former Harper government and the provincial Liberals spent $785,000 to study a transportation link to the chromite site. First Nations near the Ring of Fire carried out the study but haven’t released its recommendations. Lefebvre says more study is needed. He adds after that, the feds and province will talk about how to move the discovery forward.
