Greater Sudbury Hydro is testing its poles from Falconbridge to Sturgeon Falls to determine if they need to be replaced. It’s using new technology that measures a poles remaining strength. Knowing how much life a hydro pole has left will tell Sudbury Hydro when to replace it before it fails. Barring accidents, hydro poles can last 40 to 50 years. The testing will last until mid-October and homeowners in Sturgeon Falls and Cache Bay shouldn’t be alarmed if someone is in their yard testing the poles.
