Police out with R.I.D.E. checks this holiday weekend

Think twice before getting behind the wheel if you’ve had one too many.  OPP detachments in Northern Ontario will have extra R.I.D.E. checkpoints up this long weekend.  Police say if you plan on drinking, then make sure you have a designated driver or take a cab home.  Across Canada, impaired driving is still the number one cause of criminal deaths.

If you get stopped at a checkpoint and refuse a breath test or blow over the legal limit, expect to get hit with an immediate 90 day license suspension.  And the suspension is in addition to any drinking-related charges you may face.
