It was a close call for a Sudbury police officer in his cruiser who was nearly hit by a drunk driver. The officer was on street patrol Monday night when a car in the wrong lane made a beeline for his vehicle forcing him to swerve out of the way. The cop made a quick U-turn and caught the driver. The 52-year-old man was twice over the legal limit and was charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving and excess over 80 milligrams.
