OPP issue bear anti-encounter tips

Bears are now emerging from their hibernation, and OPP in the north have some tips on how to avoid bear problems as they look for food.  Police says bears find food in garbage so keep lids tight and only put garbage out on pick-up day.  Put the bird-feeders away because they’re another sure way of bringing bears onto your property.   And if you have trees or bush that yield fruits and berries, pick them as they ripen and don’t let them rot on the ground.  Police add another way of reducing bear encounters is to clean barbeque grills and use a grease trap when cooking outdoors.  Bears have a great sense of smell and can detect food many miles away.
