North Bay council expected to oppose cap and trade tax

North Bay councillor Mike Anthony is again taking up the cause to fight the rising price of gas.  This time Anthony is introducing a motion opposing the province’s plan to introduce a cap and trade gas tax.  The tax amounts to 4.3 cents a litre but Anthony says the final amount could be higher than this.

It’s because the cap and trade tax may also have the HST added to it, essentially creating a tax on a tax.   Anthony will introduce his resolution at the August 8th meeting of council.
