Premier being called on to commit funds to expand internet access in rural areas

The North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce wants the Premier to commit to funds to expand internet access in rural Ontario.  Last week, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce called on Kathleen Wynne to commit dedicated provincial infrastructure funds to developing and expanding broadband internet access in remote and rural areas of the province.  Local chamber President Jake Lacourse says local businesses in the North Bay area are becoming increasingly dependent on internet access for their everyday business practices.  The letter sent to the Premier identified three recommendations the Ontario government should address in the coming term to ensure all communities in the province are able to compete in the global economy.  Those are: develop a robust broadband investment strategy, build partnerships across all levels of government to leverage funding, and benchmark Ontario’s internet speeds and access.
