Investigation begins into cause of Sturgeon Falls downtown fire

The Fire Marshall’s Office has been called to help determine the cause of a major fire in downtown Sturgeon Falls.  West Nipissing Fire Chief Richard Miranda says the blaze destroyed six businesses housed in two buildings and displaced tenants from 10 apartments.  One of the businesses that was destroyed was Moose FM although we remain on the air through a temporary station set-up at our transmitter.

The damage is well over $1 million to all the businesses, but Miranda says there is one bit of good news.  He says no one was hurt in the blaze which broke out shortly after 6:00pm Thursday.  It took 38 firefighters from West Nipissing’s four stations about six hours to contain the fire.   The displaced tenants are believed to be staying with friends and relatives.
