Fire in Sturgeon Falls destroys and damages downtown businesses

A fire at Don’s Butcher Shop in downtown Sturgeon Falls has destroyed the building and caused surrounding damage.  One of the casualties is the Moose FM station in Sturgeon Falls, just two buildings away on King Street.  However our engineer has set-up a temporary station at our transmitter site allowing us to keep broadcasting.

As for the fire at the butcher shop, one person told the Moose it may have started in the basement at the back of the building where there was a refrigeration unit.  The inferno broke out around 6:00pm Thursday and firefighters were still battling the blaze well after midnight.  At this time there’s no damage estimate and it’s not clear how many other businesses were damaged.

Although there’s no damage estimate, it will be great, considering the number of buildings and apartments that were involved in the fire.  There’s no indication that anyone was hurt in the fire.
