Parents should start receiving federal child benefit cheques by July 20th. The Minister for Status of Women, Patty Hajdu says the average cheque will be about $2,300. However if the total family income is under $30,000, then the family will receive $6,400 for every child under six.
Hajdu says this is a major improvement from the past program and will help create a better life for children now facing poverty. The money from the cheques is tax free and parents can use it for whatever they like including covering children’s dental costs.
