Silent walk out by CUPE sends message to Cassellholme board

The future of Cassellholme continues to be a hot topic.

A review is currently underway to potential move to a not-for-profit model and that isn’t sitting well with CUPE workers.Regional VP for northern Ontario Henri Giroux and other CUPE members silently walked out of North Bay city council chambers on Monday.

He says they wanted to show the silence from the Cassellholme board is not acceptable. Giroux also claims the group is having closed door meetings and not letting the public know how the process is going.

Giroux says the board has never invited CUPE to the table.

He says CUPE has suggested they could go to the government to look for money to keep the home in public hands.

However, Giroux says they will present at a public meeting later this week.
