TSB releases findings in deadly chopper crash

A lack of night-time flying experience is why an air ambulance crashed in Moosonee killing everyone on board.  That’s the finding of the Transportation Safety Board which says neither the pilot nor co-pilot were trained to fly in total darkness.  The Ornge helicopter was picking up a patient in Attawapiskat when it left Moosonee the night of May 31st, 2013.

The safety board says the pilots didn’t notice that the takeoff angle had increased which in turn caused the chopper to drop.  The pilots couldn’t react fast enough and the helicopter crashed 23 seconds after taking off killing them and two paramedics.
