Detour Gold charged in mining death

A year after a miner was killed by cyanide poisoning at Detour Gold’s Cochrane mine, the company has been charged.  In total, the company is facing 14 violations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.  Three supervisors were also charged by the Ministry of Labour.  A valve containing sodium cyanide broke and the solution was inhaled by 52-year-old Denis Millette, killing him.  Mining companies use cyanide to separate gold particles from ore.
