International Mine Rescue Competition in Canada for first time

For the first time ever, Canada is holding the International Mine Rescue Competition this August and Sudbury is the host city.  Nickel Belt MP Marc Serre says the event involves mine rescue teams from around the world.  The competition simulates underground emergencies which each mine rescue team has to overcome.

Ontario Mine Rescue was created when an underground fire in Timmins in 1928 killed 39 miners.   In the House of Commons, Serre praised the work that mine rescue does around the world while announcing the August 19th to 26th  event.
