Student starts petition over Nipissing strike

Fourth year concurrent education student Sarah Prendergast wants the student voice to be heard.

She says students have been left in the dark during the full time faculty strike at Nipissing University. Prendergast has now launched a petition, to draw attention to all the ways students have been impacted. She says that the strike has affected students mental health, financial situations, academics, and placements. If the strike goes any longer, Prendergast fears it could impact some students summer employment, which usually begins on May 1st. In less than two days, the petition has over 3,000 signatures.

The strike is currently in its fourth week, and students have already been told they will not be getting a reading week in the winter term. If the strike goes past the six week mark, the school year will likely be extended into May. The petition can be found here: https://www.change.org/p/nipissing-university-nipissing-university-faculty-nipissing-university-faculty-association-end-nipissing-s-faculty-strike
