Hikers injured after encountering black bear in Sudbury

Two hikers in Sudbury’s west-end had to be treated after being bitten and clawed by an aggressive black bear.  The hikers were in a wooded area close to Long Lake Road when their dog first encountered the bear.  The bear began chasing the dog but then turned to the hikers when it saw them. The bear clawed and bit the people but left when the hikers started fending off the bear.  The incident took place around 6:00pm Monday.   The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is looking into the case.
