The marine unit of the OPP in North Bay has started its Let’s See You Wear Your Personal Floatation Device campaign. The promotion is in conjunction with BAYSAR Search and Rescue. From now until September 1st, BAYSAR and the OPP will give one person seen wearing their life jacket on North Bay and area waterways, a ride on the floatplane. The campaign follows an annual summer survey studying how many people wear life jackets while boating. Since 2013 when the survey first started, life jacket usage has risen slightly. The wear rate for people in calm water in a power boat was 14 percent which is slightly higher than the nine percent recorded when the survey began four years ago. For people in a power boat in rough water, the wear rate was 29 percent compared to 23 percent in 2013.
