CN faces lawsuits after 2015 derailments near Gogama

Canadian National Railway is facing two lawsuits from the Mattagami First Nation as the result of two derailments near Gogama.   Chief Chad Boissoneau says the reserve is looking for monetary awards after oil from the derailments contaminated the land and animals.  More than four million litres of oil spilled from the tankers when the derailments took place in February and March of 2015.  Boissoneau says the damage took place on traditional First Nation territory where community members have hunted and fished for thousands of years.  Boissoneau says it’s his people who had to deal with the damage and they’re just looking for justice.
