Judge grants bail to man in Verner standoff

The man involved in a 28-hour standoff with police in Verner has been granted bail.  But the 70-year-old has a number of conditions attached to his release including he has to see the police every day and he has to live in North Bay.  The man was taken into custody late afternoon Tuesday and charged with possession of a dangerous weapon, careless use of a firearm and unsafe storage of a firearm.  The standoff began Monday afternoon when the man was being served with papers over ownership of the Verner property.  Something happened to cause the officers and process server to back away from the home and the OPP were called.  A second person wanted on an immigration warrant was also taken into custody.  This person was being held for the Canada Border Service Agency.
