The standoff in Verner continues where a man is holding off the OPP and West Nipissing police. Several units from the OPP are on the scene including crisis negotiators and the force’s tactics and rescue unit. The standoff is taking place at a home on Highway 64 between Piquette and Leclair roads. The OPP continue to say there is no risk to the public and that the area is contained. There’s no indication from police if the man in the home is armed. The standoff began shortly after 1:00pm Monday when the man was being served with a notice to maintain the peace. However something happened during this time because police backed away from the home.
