A standoff between a man and police in Verner continues. The OPP are at the scene with their critical incident command unit helping the West Nipissing police. It’s not known if the man is armed in any way. The standoff was triggered early Monday afternoon when a man was being served to maintain the peace. However something happened because while police were interacting with the man they suddenly retreated from the home. The man remains in the house which is on Highway 64 between Leclair and Piquette. That part of the highway remains closed and police say public safety is not at risk. However traffic can detour from Highway 64 to Highway 17 using Leclair to Beaudry or from Cache Bay.
