Sawmill creating 90 jobs planned for Bonfield

Bonfield is getting a multi-million dollar sawmill.   The facility will be built in the area in the next few years.  International Wood Industries will spend more than $145 million on the project which is expected to create 90 jobs at the facility.  President Gary Medwid says they saw the Mattawa-Bonfield area as a good place to do business because of its access to two major highways and a rail system.  IWI says the Mattawa-Bonfield region as a strong market because of a combination of certain technologies and local resources. The total payroll for staff once the plant is up and running is around $4.5-million. Between now and the day shovels hit the group, officials will be wrapping up other planning projects such as a traffic study through the Ministry of Transportation and an Environmental Assessment.  The project is being funded entirely through the private sector.
