Local First Nations Hockey Players Headed to Semis at NAHC in B.C.

Nipissing First Nation’s William Michaud got a goal in Team Ontario Boy’s 8-2 quarter-final win over Team North at National Aboriginal Hockey Championship in Cowichan British Columbia.  With the win the boys are guaranteed to play for a medal. Winning their semi-final Friday would mean playing for gold.

Meanwhile Lily George of Nipissing First Nation and  Melanie Young of Dokis First Nation scored both the Ontario Girls team goals but it wasn’t enough as they fell 3-2 to Saskatchewan in Overtime in their quarter-finals. Nipissing First Nation’s Cailen Hanzlik made 21 saves for Team Ontario.

Although out of medal contention the girls will play a relegation round game Friday.
